I had the chance to capture Chris and Sarah’s fall wedding at Juniper Mountain House. So much thought and detail went into this intimate wedding, and I loved every moment of it!
Read on to discover all the must-know info about planning a wedding at Juniper Mountain House.
Juniper Mountain House is a charming boutique mountain lodge that is only 30 minutes away from Denver. It’s an amazing queer owned venue that celebrates and welcomes your love no matter your race, gender, sexuality, ability or age.
The mountain house is tucked into 10 acres of peaceful evergreen forests that overlook the foothills of Evergreen. They have a gorgeous ceremony site called The Meadow, which is in a clearing surrounded by woods.
It also comes with custom wood benches, which, fun fact, are handmade from salvaged roller coaster rides. They also have a ceremony platform, a rustic wedding arch, and cozy string lights – it’s the ideal spot for an intimate, private celebration.
After your ceremony, you and your guests can head to the beautiful Mountain View Deck for your reception. This deck features farm tables, an indoor lounge, and a bar. Another option you have access to is the Treelined Driveway.
Juniper Mountain House also has private hiking trails you and your guests can enjoy, games, a fire pit, for-purchase s’more kits, a hot tub, and a bar and lounge. This venue is ideal for elopements and small weddings, as the maximum number of guests permitted is 50. Also, there is lodging on site, and depending on the package you choose, there is an option for an exclusive whole lodge buyout, which includes access to all five rooms on the property. If all of this has captured your attention, here’s a behind-the-lens look at Chris and Sarah’s wedding to help you picture what your wedding day could look like here!
Chris and Sarah live in Denver with their sweet French Bulldog, Huckleberry, who was also a noteworthy guest at their wedding. They got engaged while hiking outside of Red Rocks, and when they were searching for their dream wedding venue, they happily discovered Juniper Mountain House.
Originally, these two were planning on eloping, but after deliberating, they decided they wanted to have a small wedding. Their wedding vision was designed to align with their lifestyle—casual, fun, and stress-free.
Chris and Sarah were looking for a photographer who could capture them in their loving and silly/awkward moments. This is my jam – as your photographer, I will artfully frame you, your love, and your surroundings!
I want you to feel free to do things your way without worrying about being “photogenic.” After looking through my work, they decided we were a perfect match for each other.
They also knew that on the day of their wedding, they wanted to sneak away and find some gorgeous spots around Evergreen where they could take some couple portraits while being surrounded by Colorado’s fall beauty, which is something we, of course, made happen!
On the day of their wedding, we ventured to a nearby mountain outlook to capture some magical portraits of just Chris and Sarah.
At the overlook, we enjoyed the crisp mountain air and took striking images with the rugged mountains and endless evergreen pine trees serving as their backdrop.
Chris and Sarah got ready separately at a rental near their venue. One noteworthy feature of Sarah’s outfit was that she brought her black hiking boots, which beautifully represented this couple’s love for the outdoors and adventure.
Once they were both ready, Sarah went outside to meet Chris for their first look. Chris was absolutely elated to see Sarah as they both embraced each other. We then snuck away to grab some dreamy couple portraits on the mountain overlook before their ceremony.
They had their ceremony in The Meadow and were surrounded by nature with warm string lights hanging overhead. Their adorable pup, Huckleberry, walked down the aisle – but they weren’t the only furry friend present.
A friend of the couple also brought along their dog, Spotty! Sarah and Chris had a beautiful ceremony in the property’s clearing among the picturesque evergreen and ponderosa pine trees.
After their ceremony, Sarah, Chris, Huckleberry, and I ventured into the woods to take some more couple portraits—this time featuring Huckleberry—before we headed back to the mountain house for their reception.
At their reception, the couple brought in a Steuben food truck, and in place of a cake, they had Voodoo donuts that looked just like the two of them and Huckleberry.
Also, at the reception, Huckleberry signed their marriage license – yes, in Colorado, your dog can sign your marriage license!! Then, the bride’s family band played a few songs at the reception. We wrapped up the night with dancing to celebrate the start of the exciting new chapter in Sarah and Chris’s lives.
Thanks to Sarah and Chris’s vendors who made this day possible!
